December Blog 2015

October certainly went out with a bang! Bonfire night on Saturday 31st was spectacular. Great fireworks, fabulous bonfire and the Guy Fawkes the children had made, which were brilliant, added the final touches. Delicious nibbles and mulled wine were ongoing for the evening. Thank you to everyone who had helped in any way and of course to Jeremy and Anita who had once again opened up their field for us all to be able to enjoy this event.

November 5th U.F.O. met at Amanda’s to stitch, knit, cut out and of course chat! Thank you Amanda, also for the delicious home made cake and various drinks.

Choir members from Steventon and North Waltham joined Ashe for Remembrance Service on Sunday 8th which was particularly poignant this year.

Sunday 15th the B.C.S., along with brilliant soloists and the very youthful, exuberant Ars Eloquentiae, held their concert at the Anvil. Superb. Lots of feedback. Best ever Messiah. Full of vigour. Amazing what goes on in Basingstoke, why go to London!! We have to thank our director, David Gibson, for his never ending encouragement week after week and who’s exuberance effects us all.

November certainly has been a very busy month with numerous activities including; Dancercise, Ukuleles, Singing, to name just a few. This all takes a lot of organizing, how one hand knows what the other hand is doing is quite amazing!! So a very big Thank you to all those who give up their time and energy to keep us on our toes at all times. In more ways than one!!

We have the Rolling Supper to look forward to on Saturday 21st with the Christmas Fayre the following Saturday. At the end of the month the United Benefice service is at Steventon church.

December 6th at St. Nicholas’ church, Steventon is ‘St. Nicholas’ Service at 3.00pm. As St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children, is would be really wonderful to see as many children at the service as possible. There will be tea afterwards held in the village hall.

The Book club are holding their December meeting on the 11th at the Fox, cheese soufflés all round!!

Sunday 20th is the Crib service at 11.15am. Who knows what will happen! I’m sure Marilyn and Julia have great things planned.

Monday 21st is the Senior’s Christmas lunch and one that is very much being looked forward to.

There are many Carol Services to look forward to, ending with Steventon’s in the very beautiful St. Nicholas’ church, on Tuesday 22nd at 7.00pm. This will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the village hall.

This is always an extra busy time of the year with preparations for Christmas underway. Baking to do, maybe time to sample the mince pies!! Also time to reflect, as it is such a special time of the year. A very Happy, Peaceful Christmas and New Year to you all.
