In just a few weeks we have had high winds, snow, hail and heavy downpours, what a delight yesterday to feel the warmth of the sunshine. Bliss. Even the chickens were basking in the sun with their wings outstretched. Bit of a blip this weekend then hopefully warmer weather once again.
Not a lot to report this month, the highlight most definitely was ‘Steventon Entertains….in Lockdown’ the evening of Saturday 6th March, hosted by Charlie, looking very handsome in his DJ. Those who had entered, bravely performed on camera behind locked doors, to provide a video recording which was then sent to Paul, who put it all together on Zoom for us all to enjoy. We met just before 7.00pm to have a quick chat to fellow ‘Zoomers’ before settling down to enjoy the show. The Self Isolation Choir, who Rosina is a member of, started the evening with the beautiful sound of ‘Lift Thine Eyes’ followed by the Gruzelier family solos. First up was Louis on the piano and played ‘This Old Man’ brilliantly. Amelia then on the violin played ‘North Country Lass’ superbly. John, last to go on the saxophone played ‘Summertime’ amazing, hopefully to hear more of in the future. Next was Tony, donned with wig, dress and whacky glasses and performed Dame Edna’s ‘Thoughts about Lockdown’ along with a great accent! Just have to say this might not be in the correct order! Jemima Stephenson sang ‘Truly Scrumptious’ from Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang, what a beautiful voice and so full of confidence. Charlie had us engrossed in his Monologue, ‘Justice’ We all thought he was in jail until at the end an announcement came over the loudspeaker on a platform station! Very well done. Sue and Mike Brinsley performed the ‘Kitchen Tango’ how so much can be done in so small a space! Fantastic, then back to the mundane of sweeping! Dorothy’s Monologue ‘Lockdown’ was absolutely brilliant and warranted cries of ‘More, more’ The great Finale was ‘Let’s Twist Again’ This was a video clip from the finale of the 2012 show ‘Sounds Like the Sixties’ Was it really that long ago! Wow.
A truly entertaining evening, you were all brilliant, especially the children. A Special Thank You to Paul for being so amazing once again, which enabled us all to sit back and thoroughly enjoy the show.
Virtual Book Group met on Friday 12th in the afternoon on Zoom. Tea and cake enjoyed in one’s own home, roll on the time we are able to meet outside in the garden! ‘The Woman in White’ by Wilkie Collins was discussed and enjoyed with a score of 7 overall.
The clocks go forward this weekend, how wonderful. Much longer days, spring has definitely arrived. As the snowdrops fade, white blackthorn blossom is bursting into flower everywhere. Primroses have appeared in abundance, even where there have never been any before, stunning. Forsythia hedges in their splendid yellow covering, the daffodils looking magnificent everywhere, including the tubs on the triangle by the village hall. Bumble Bees have been loudly making their presence known and butterflies have now been spotted, wonderful. An owl has been heard occasionally hooting during the day time, extraordinary. The honking of Canada geese flying overhead is also a magical sound and a magnificent sight. However, the sound of the blackbird as it sings on high, in the warmth and peace and quiet is most certainly at the top of my list.
Seeds are now being sown in readiness of busy times ahead and the sounds of mowers and smell of sweet mown grass announce the good times to come. Especially when we can meet up with friends and family once again and most of all HUGS, we will all safely rejoice and give thanks.
