November 2024 Blog

Cannot believe it, as I look out of the window it is snowing!!  Back to Monday 21st Oct. Coffee & Cake in the village hall.  Good to see those who have been missing for one reason or another, back in the fold.  Amongst the warmth, chatter and friendship of those all around.  Great morning with of course Cake!!   The following day on the 22nd, in the afternoon, a few singers along with Paul, joined Rev. Tim at Oak Lodge for a short service and chat with some of the residents, lovely.

Saturday 26th and Breakfast Together in the village hall was excellent, also very well attended.  After delicious bacon baps, croissants and coffee, we sat immersed in the descriptions, pictures and the obvious 100% commitment of Jan Peterson as she talked about her trip, Mityana Projects Trust, Unganda.  Along with many helpers they had managed to build Schools, Health Clinics, Lakes and even a Dam, to name a few. Thus, providing jobs, farming, food and clean water, apart from the love and encouragement that goes along with it all, plus a lot more.  The pictures showed such happiness from the children, also the adults and so full of thanks for what they had achieved and been given, however small.  Donations raised £130, all of which would be taken out on the next trip, the smallest amount buys such a lot, even a cooking unit!

Into November!  Sunday 3rd in the afternoon at 4.00, our little church was lit up with candles to greet the congregation as they came to this very special service to remember all those who are no longer with us.  All Souls Service.  The lights were turned out as we came up to light a candle, a very moving service.  As the service came to an end and we sat, Paul treated us to the most beautiful music on the organ, ‘Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring’ by J.S. Bach.  Wonderful.  The evening came, darkness descended, the weather was fine, villagers arrived, lots of excited children, just in time to see the magnificent bonfire ablaze, fabulous.  Lots of nibbles were brought along to share, mulled wine, tremendous fireworks all to be enjoyed.  Great night, many thanks to Peter & Carrie for sharing their field with the village, Jeff & Mike for setting off the fireworks, the best yet.  Matt for the bonfire and to the village hall committee for another festive event.

Book Group on Friday 8th was at Shona’s.  Thank you so much for hosting Shona, delicious cakes etc as always, I was told.  After lots of chatter and putting the world to rights, the book discussion got underway.  “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell.  A mix of fact and fiction based on the life of William Shakespeare and his family.  The characters and locations were very well described and realistic.  A score of 7 overall was given.

Remembrance Service took place on the 10th at 10.45, outside the church around the Remembrance garden.  At 11.00am, Tim played the recording of The Last Post.  A lovely gathering of villagers for a very moving service.  Thank you, Marilyn.

Then to the much awaited, Rolling Supper on Saturday 16th which lived up to all its expectations.  Well done, Charlie, you did it again.  What a wonderful social evening.  Fabulous food, great company, fantastic fun.  Huge thank you to all who hosted, Charlie for all the organization involved and lastly, coffee & chocolates back at the village hall at the end of the evening.  Absolutely marvellous, as we all agreed.

The Coffee & Cake morning on Monday 18th was rather poorly attended, even cakes left over!!!  However, those that did attend thoroughly enjoyed their morning.  Roy Cross managed to come which was amazing, he is the oldest resident in Steventon, soon to be 100, so was very warmly greeted.  Many thanks to Sheena, Rosina and Barbara for hosting and baking, all looked delicious.

A very, very warm welcome to three gorgeous little boys.  Noah 2yrs old, Archie 3yrs old and Elliot 4yrs old.  A wonderful addition to Karl and Caroline’s family, we wish you all great happiness and love.

Well, we have had huge Hunters Moons, stunningly beautifully sunsets and sunrises, amazing.  The colours everywhere are simply gorgeous, we have waited in anticipation for them and they haven’t disappointed.  Primroses are flowering, buds are blooming! grass is still growing, the cows are still outside, fabulous.  Although I’m sure things will be changing soon with the cold weather arriving in the next few days.  The owl has been seen flying up the road on its way home as we sit having a cuppa in bed in the morning.  So beautiful, the owl that is!  The Christmas cake has been made, cards have arrived already!! we look forward to the Christmas Fair on Saturday 30th.  Hope we see you all there.  A cuppa in front of the fire is now calling, to be enjoyed before we go out this evening to join Paul & Marilyn in the village hall for Steventon Singers.
