Back to Monday 21st September and the MacMillan Fundraiser Coffee Morning. What a marvellous result, over £600 raised thanks to all our wonderful cake makers and to all who came and supported this great cause. Plus, all who helped in any way, especially Chris & Rosina for organising it all even down to flowers from Chris’s garden, lovely.
Early on Saturday 25th the flower ladies were up at church early to decorate beautifully for Harvest service. All looked and smelt wonderful. Thank you to Emma for providing delicious cake and coffee, always so very welcome. Later, Harvest Brunch was enjoyed by all in the village hall, looking also very seasonal. What a feast, besides bacon baps & pastrys, there were delicious pancakes with maple syrup, cheese, crusty bread, plus Rachel had made a most beautiful platter containing figs, dates & satsumas. Also, it was Charlie’s B’day and in true Charlie fashion, he thanked us all for coming to his Birthday Bash!
Now here we are into October! On the morning of Friday the 9th, book group joyfully met at Sheena’s. Thank you, a lovely morning full of chat & banter, delicious cake and coffee, after quite a while the book in question was raised! “Miss Bensons Beetle” by Rachel Joyce. An unusual adventure story full of humour and sadness. This gave an insight into the lives of women in the post war period and shows the value of true friendship. Highly recommended, scored overall 8.25.
That evening in the village hall, the Film club met to watch “Quartet” A great film with Billy Connelly, Maggie Smith and Pauline Collins. We were treated to choc ices at half time, who could ask for more! Thank you, Sue, for organizing this most enjoyable evening.
Then, Tuesday 13th had arrived, what we had all been waiting for, yes, the read through of the Panto script! Excellent. Off we all went afterwards, deep in discussion, oh yes, it will, oh no it won’t…….As always, it will be alright on the night! All those who are in the 2nd Act, are starting rehearsals tonight, so busy times ahead.
Yesterday, Monday 19th was Coffee & Cake in the village hall, sadly down on numbers, although most of the cakes were enjoyed and disappeared which was great. Thanks to Sally, Barbara, myself & Rachel.
Just looking out at the dark pouring rain….What a difference from previous weeks. In the deep, a pre-dawn quiet, a full moon hung low in the sky, watching over a world of fading stars and complete stillness. Gradually sounds of a fox, owl, muntjac and even partridge could be heard before the rooks started their wake-up call which was the start of their amazing acrobatics in the air as various flocks joined in. Gradually the colours grew so intense as the early morning sunshine started to highlight the bright rust of the trees. So very beautiful. An abundance of beech nuts crunches underfoot, sloes covering branches, a good year as were the blackberries. Sloe gin is underway, which has reminded me I must give the jars a good shake. Fruit that has been soaking up the brandy, has now filled the kitchen with delightful aromas of the Christmas cake cooking, yum. Talking of which, the Christmas market in the village hall is on Saturday 28th November, a date to put on the calendar. Always a wonderful morning with lots to enjoy and buy, plus of course coffee & mince pies. Lunch is now calling; soup sounds a good idea on this cold morning. The fire will also be lit this evening, if not before!
