What a knock-out “Steventon Entertains…Again” was over the two nights of 24th & 25th February. Considering everyone were doing their ‘own thing’ it was a surprise to us all to witness all the talent this had produced. Both nights were a sell out, however, a few were unable to attend due to illness. Steventon Singers opened the show and so it continued. Amelia and Louis, being the youngest, were brilliant, up to ladies in their 80’s at the other scale of ages!! The variety was astounding for such a small village and to see the Black & White dance resurrected was brilliant. The few practises we had was astonishing! The first time we all got into a ‘leg’ which near enough glued us together, was hilarious as was the garters and pins that kept it all together, with the help of our wonderful helper Rachel, whom we couldn’t have done without. What fun we all had. Also Jeff & Mike, with their version of ‘There’s a Hole in my Bucket’ which ended the first half, just went to show how very versatile the ‘Dress’ was! Laurence opened the second half with the wonderful sound of the bagpipes and the evening came to a close with a singalong bringing everyone together with Dancing Queen and Thank You for the Music, with actions!! A big Thank you to Paul & Tim for music and lighting, also to all those who helped in any way. Also to you all, turning up yet again, keep coming, we love to see you. Panto next year!!!!
Exercise was at the forefront on Monday 27th February, in the village hall…..A taster class of “Paracise” gentle exercise set to fabulous music with Bethan Buchanan. Quite a few arrived on the morning, all wondering just how much, or too little, this would be. We were in for a surprise, it was excellent! Great music, a full 45 mins of different steps, stretching and movement, also Bethan is lovely. Great fun and invigoration, so, bring on Monday mornings at 9.15, except on the monthly Coffee & Cake of course!
Saturday March 4th arrived, the Lord Mayor’s Concert, “Thank You for the Music” at the Anvil. Rehearsals in the afternoon, a quick trip home then back for 7.00pm. Tremendous, from the children’s Glow Worm song to the Ukrainian singers and dancers with all the choirs coming together throughout the evening. The finale bringing the whole auditorium together to sing ‘Thank You for the Music’ a wonderful way to connect everyone. Many thanks to Marilyn, as without her this would not have happened. Also to all those who gave their time throughout all these weeks leading up to this great concert. A total of £1500 was raised in bucket collections on the night, so hopefully the total will be brilliant for the Mayor’s charities.
Friday 17th Book group met at Rachel’s, thank you for hosting also for the very yummy cheese scones. Delicious chocolate cake from Shona and decorated beautifully by Amelia. Two candles, one each for Susie and myself, thank you, beautifully sung. A great gathering, non-stop chatting with plenty of laughter. ‘The Cornish Coast Murder’ by John Bude was discussed eventually and given a score of 6. The cakes and scones were given a score of 10..!!
Coffee & Cake on Monday 20th in the village hall was very well attended. Delicious cakes thanks to Sheena, Marilyn and Emma, also thank you for hosting also, Rosina. Such a lot of chattering we were so surprised to see how the end of the morning had arrived, always good to see everyone.
Singing is continuing every other Tuesday which is great. Yoga has commenced, good to see you back Amanda after covid, you were missed. The seeds are empty again, the robin amazingly, was hovering whilst taking a sunflower seed. We lost count one day of the numbers of goldfinches that came. It was on the morning of March 8th when snow arrived!! Around at least 50 of them, all around the feeders and on the ground, amazing. The first time for many years, what had arrived, hedge sparrows, wonderful. Also I watched a rook dusting itself all over, even under it’s wings, in the snow. We have had some warm days which has brought out a couple of large bumble bees, also a large yellow butterfly in the garden. Even a ladybird has been spotted. As I am looking out the window now, there is a blackbird pulling a ginormous worm out of the lawn, never giving up, it finally succeeds triumphantly. Spring has definitely sprung. Primroses are out now and the daffodils everywhere are looking so beautiful where ever you go. Leaves are bursting out on hedges making a green haze all over, blackthorn already out in flower in sheltered spots. Clocks go forward this weekend, wonderful, seeds to sow and warmer weather to entice us out into the garden. Fingers crossed for no more cold weather or even snow as someone said we might get. Mind you, the wind is getting up. Maybe lunch on our laps in front of the fire, sounds like a good idea.
