Good heavens, drizzle!! No, gone again! Almost Sept. back to June and the Fete, which was brilliant and so lovely to be back with Simon & Harriet in their beautiful garden, to which we say a Huge Thank You. Always amazing to see everything brought together so quickly, then equally taken away again. Well done everyone. Breakfast Together was in aid of Boaz Hands Together who supports adults with learning Disabilities, offering opportunities for work, community and friendship. An amazing organisation, thank you to those who came and supported them. This concluded June events.
July’s Pot-Luck lunch book group met in Marilyn’s lovely garden under much sunshade that was provided, wonderful. Thank you so much. We all brought different delicious savoury dishes, plus deserts, a lovely afternoon, great pictures also, thank you. The following day the United Benefice Choir met in Winchester for a rehearsal, as that evening in the College Chapel, Choral Evensong commemorating Jane Austen, took place. This followed JASNA’s AGM. We all just managed to survive the heat!! Beautiful chapel.
August has been relatively quiet with just Book Group meeting at Sue’s, a small but select group as some away on hols. Thank you for hosting Sue, coffee and whoever provided delicious cake. The book under discussion was ‘The Story Keeper’ by Anna Mazzola. Varied comments, some loved it, some thought it too slow and several didn’t read it. A score of 6 was given. Coffee and Cake next week, hopefully well supported.
What lovely mornings there have been, first thing sat outside with a cuppa. We have seen many hares; also, young pheasants, which is brilliant, as they have obviously bred in the wild. The other morning two deer made their way to the top of Nigel’s bank, just stood close together with the sun’s rays slowly accentuating their perfect bodies. However, the evenings have certainly been the best. The sudden peaceful, quiet time between 8.00pm and 9.00pm. The sublime colours slowly changing as the sun sets and starts to fade. So very still, just the sound of the occasional bleat of a lamb, last few birds as they go to roost. Then there is that amazing after glow as the evening slips into nighttime. As if it couldn’t get any better, the owl can be heard, then another, so wonderful. We then sit in the porch to await the hedgehogs! In total there have been six to the feed stations, including two small ones. How one can get excited by these beautiful, prickly little animals, they also drink quite a lot from other bowls dotted around. Great to hear them crunching their way through the hedgehog food.
Well, certainly not much to do in the garden as we await the much-needed rain. Such a bumper crop of tomatoes this year, delicious cooked in a little butter and have them on toast for breakfast. I’m surprised we don’t look like
one by now! A very warm welcome to Angus and Julia Wright and children Lowrie and Lilly who have moved into The Garden House. We hope you will all be very happy in your new home and in this wonderfully friendly village.
Hope to see lots of you at the MacMillan Coffee morning on Monday 21st this month in the village hall. Until then, keep doing the rain dance!
