November 2025 Blog

Goodness, snow!!! now viewed through the window….Well, back to Friday 17th October and the Men’s Pop-up Pub.  According to Mike, a very successful evening over a pint, chat and a few games of darts, great.  Thanks again to Jeff, look forward to the next one in 2026.  Monday 20th, Coffee & Cake in the village hall.  After a slow start, the hall was abuzz with chatter, delicious cakes and coffee served with a smile as always.  Thank you Tamsin, Anita & Jan, always a great morning for a catchup.

Friday 24th Film Night, yippee!  The Panto, ‘Pride & Prejudice’ the Steventon Way, which turned out to be a brilliant evening.  We all thoroughly enjoyed watching, also joining in the odd song!  Wonderful to see those who are no longer with us for whatever reason, also the children who have now blossomed into adulthood.   22nd-25th February 2017! couldn’t believe how long ago it was.  Thank you Sue, great choice.

Saturday 25th Harvest Breakfast Together in the village hall.  Numbers had grown to over 30 which was wonderful.  Apart from enjoying delicious bacon rolls, croissants, coffee, we heard all about Naomi House, a children’s hospice.  Also, Jacksplace, a separate hospice for young adults, both providing specialist care and support to life-limited and life-threatened children and young adults in the whole of central southern England.  They are a single charity and need all the support possible, it costs 9 million per year, unbelievable, needless to say all Breakfast donations went to this totally amazing charity.

Into November where we all suddenly had an extra hour in bed, maybe!  Sunday 2nd All Souls service took place at 4.00pm, a sad but lovely service during which we all went up and lit a candle in remembrance of all those we miss and love.  The church looked beautiful lit up, as dusk was upon us as we left.

Thursday morning of the 6th, the flower ladies met for a special coffee & cake morning hosted by Zena, thank you so much Zena and to Romy & Chris for delicious cakes.  This was to say a special Thank you to Emma for all her hard work organising us all, plus providing us each time with very tasty cake and coffee, always appreciated.  Marilyn also had a special Thank you which was wonderful.  A lovely, lovely morning.

Saturday 8th, the village Bonfire Night….Thank you to Peter & Carrie for opening up your field for this event, to Matt for the most amazing bonfire, to the Village Hall committee for the fireworks and to Jeff & Mike for sorting and setting them off.  Enjoyed by all not just the children! Whoever made the two guy Fawkes,  well done.

Remembrance Service on the 9th was able to take place outside the church round the Remembrance garden as the weather was extremely kind to us.  Always a moving and wholehearted service with of course a recordings of the Last Post and Reville.

Thursday 13th Steventon Singers, dressed in Jane Austen attire!  visited Oak Lodge for a Presentation in song & verse.  Thank you to Paul, Marilyn and Michael.  The residents were thrilled apparently, loved joining in with the singing, wonderful to see them doing so.  We were asked to sing ‘As Long As I Have Music’ once again just as we were about to leave, fabulous.

Friday 14th the Book Group met at Sue’s, many thanks Sue for hosting, great coffee and to Sally & Rachel for delicious ginger cake & brownies.  I was not able to be there, however, can imagine much chatting and discussions about all sorts, aways great fun, before time was decided to discuss the book!  ‘The Maid’ by Nita Prose.  A mystery novel about Molly Gray, a hotel maid, who is outwardly socially clumsy, OCD and gets caught up in a murder.  Quirky and engaging characters.  A score of 8 overall.

Saturday 15th, the Rolling Supper.  Absolutely fantastic, great food, wonderful company, what more can one say.  Well done Charlie for pulling it out of the bag once again.  Even the weather was good, no rain, umbrellas or wellies!  Toing and froing up and down the road, great fun, well done all.  When is the next one?

So, here we are now, not long before the magical month of December is upon us.  My Christmas cake made, pressure off! more sloes to pick, especially after tomorrows frost.  The sun has now come out although it is very windy, I have to brave the dreaded Sainsbury this afternoon, oh joy!!  The other morning around 50-60 geese flew over on their way to other feeding grounds, magical sound and sight.  The same morning a steam train went passed, what a sight, one we haven’t seen for many a year on this line.  Also, there have been the most awe-inspiring, stunningly beautiful sunrises, which brought a profound sense of peace and tranquillity to the start of a busy day.  Oh my, the window cleaner has just arrived, in his shorts!  The fire will be lit shortly… A Very Happy Christmas to you all with much love.  Back in 2026.
