June 2026 Blog

After what seems like quite a while since the last Update, here we are again!  What a difference a few weeks has made, especially to the garden.  With everything looking like it was about to die before we went, hey presto, a transformation.  So vibrant, lush and colourful after the rain, a joy to behold.  Even the runner beans finally made their appearance!

The ‘Dig’ is going along well.  One can see the quiet camaraderie of a team kneeling, brushing away dust after the sharp metallic sound of metal hitting stone, or something very interesting, hopefully.  Great time had by all.  Can’t wait to see and hear about it all when it has been completed.

A group of 30 Israeli visitors arrived at the village hall yesterday morning before their visit to the church and talk by Michael which they all enjoyed.  Well done ladies for providing refreshments and to the arrival of Mr Darcy and Mrs Bennett which certainly was the highlight of the morning!  There are two more groups arriving soon, this weekend from the Netherlands and on the 22nd from United States.

Steventon Singers are arriving at Oak Lodge this Thursday afternoon of the 18th to join the residents in a very jolly ‘Singing Together’ with some old favourites which they will all remember.  Plus, others we have been singing during our Tuesday, Steventon Singers evenings, chosen by Marilyn, great fun.  Men’s Pop-Up Pub is on the following evening, 19th, thanks to Jeff.   There have been a couple of Coffee & Cake mornings, thanks to all who have baked or hosted.  Also, Book Group, the last one held at Chris’s, enjoyed by all those that were able to attend, many thanks Chris.  The book discussed was ‘Murder Before Evensong’ by Richard Cole, the TV series on channel 5 was said to be more enjoyable than the book, so I think we will be watching it, maybe?

I know I keep saying it, however, the birds are such a wonder and a joy at the moment, as watching at least 6 young bluetits hanging on the bird nuts at one time is hilarious.  Every now and again shooting off in various directions when the woodpecker swoops in to have his share!  The bird song early morning and at the end of the day is fabulous, best part of the day.  Especially enjoyed with a morning cuppa.  Oh well, back to thinking what to make for dinner!  BBQ’s coming up by the look of the forecast, lovely.  Great weather for the Fete this weekend.  Enjoy
